Grape St. Pier

Grape St pier

Ola Farms is making its start at the Grape St. Pier location in San Diego Bay. Sound familiar? Sunken Seaweed started farming that space years ago. Standing on the shoulders of giants, we hope to continue their stewardship as we take our aim to restore San Diego’s waterways using nature.

Questions as we go

  • We plan to primarily grow giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) and sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca). We will also grow native shellfish species.

  • This pilot site will center research as we hope to better understand how our nature-forward bioremediation techniques can be a contamination solution. We will develop novel purification methods to use the harvested biomass to heal our lands.

  • Well, that’s a great question. You can follow us on Instagram and help spread the word.

We are working diligently with the Port of San Diego to identify permitting opportunities to expand our restoration impact. As petitions and letters of support become available, we will let you know.
